Below are two photos to show the changes we've made to our site since beginning work in July. Where Johannes is digging is about where the bucket stands in the first photo... except about 3 meters below. He and I are working to excavate
around an ancient wall which appears have been reused in different configurations at least twice.Archeology is a controlled destruction of a site. When we're done, our work will be covered and the only record will be photos and measurements and careful notes and a published r
Our other site is finding coins.... I always pick the right spot.
Question of the day: Do I get very dirty?

Hi, Donna,
ReplyDeleteSo, 225 buckets x 25 lbs/bucket = 5,625 lbs. soil in about 11 days of digging is about 20+ buckets daily (~511 lbs/day!) You must be so tired!
I have a question on depth perception: 3 m x 3.2 ft./m = 9.8 feet! Are you sure this "hole" is 3 m? If Johannes' back is at street level in picture 1 (the original street where you started - or is that street not visible?) could this be 1.5 m or so? I'm not there so I can't tell ....
W/ respect to the "getting dirty" question - I think considering what you're doing, you couldn't have stayed much cleaner!
You're doing a great job on this blog, Donna - I love it!
Love,
Linda
You're right about the measuring error. The 'hole' is about 4 or 5 feet deep from its previous surface level. I probably meant 3 feet but everyone talks in meters and centimeters here and the term just came out when I was blogging...sigh!!
